Heydar Aliyev Cup - 2012, Czech Republic
2012-05-10 - Prague
The Heydar Aliyev Cup, which is being held throughout Europe and is arranged by Odlar Yurdu Organisation, continued in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic. The tournament, which is organized with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Czech Republic, was attended by Tahir Taghizade, the Azerbaijani ambassador, as well as diplomats from other countries, Azerbaijanis residing and studying in Prague, and young people of other nationalities as spectators. At the opening ceremony, Ilham Naghiyev, the chairman of Odlar Yurdu, stated that this football tournament, dedicated to the memory of Heydar Aliyev, the National Leader, was welcomed with great interest by those studying in the Czech Republic. The teams must initially apply to participate in the tournament, which has already become something of a tradition. The amateur teams comprised of Azerbaijanis and other young foreigners work hard in preparation for the tournament, which has been held annually since 2008. ‘This year, when inviting young people to attend the event in the Czech Republic, they were already aware of the event and were very keen to come. This shows that the Heydar Aliyev Cup arranged by Odlar Yurdu has become a tradition in the Czech Republic and in the countries where it will be held in the forthcoming years’.
As the result of several very tense matches, the Czech and Russian teams reached the finals. The tournament ended in victory for the Czechs, while the other teams were awarded with cups, medals and various prizes presented by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the Czech Republic.
