Novruz in Lithuania
2012-03-23 - Kaunas
The Azerbaijani students studying in the Lithuanian Republic, who remain committed to the promotion of our country, celebrated Novruz in Kaunas City. Around 20 students have been studying there since September 2010 as a result of the contract concluded between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Lithuanian Government. Some of them are studying in Vilnius, while the others are in Kaunas. Despite the fact that we live in different cities, we all feel responsible for the promotion of our country and always come together for the sake of our state and national interests. Therefore the results of the events arranged by us make us and our friends very happy.
The event, which was attended by over 100 local and international students including teaching staff, began with a film about Novruz customs. In his speech which opened the official part of the event, Samir Musayev, the student representative of Odlar Yurdu in Lithuania, expressed his gratitude to the guests for their attendance. After the speech, according to custom, the Azerbaijani students arranged games for the foreign students and the winners were presented with prizes. Then the taste of the delicious dishes (pilaf, dolma and dovgha), and shekerbura, pakhlava and goghal, cooked by our female students delighted our guests. The event continued with a demonstration of our customs around a campfire. Our guests were most interested in the national dances performed by our students. The Novruz holiday was celebrated by us with support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Lithuanian Republic, and Odlar Yurdu. The evening ended in a demonstration of the ‘Yally’ dance.
